Nickel Alloy 400 and Monel 400, also known as UNS N04400, is a ductile nickel-copper-based alloy consisting primarily of two-thirds nickel and one-third copper. Nickel Alloy 400 is known for its resistance to a variety of corrosive conditions, including alkalis (or acids), salt water, hydrofluoric acid, and sulfuric acid. Since Monel 400 or Alloy 400 is a cold worked metal, this alloy has high hardness, stiffness and strength. By cold working ASTM B164 UNS N04400 bar stock, the alloy is subjected to higher levels of mechanical stress, which in turn causes changes in the alloy’s microstructure.

ALLOY400 is a single-phase solid-solution Ni-Cu alloy with good mechanical properties from sub-zero temperatures up to about 550 ¡ãC (1020 ¡ãF) and is approved for pressure vessels with wall temperatures from -10 to 425 ¡ãC (14 to 800 ¡ãF) according to VdTUV-Wbl. 263 and up to 900 ¡ãF (480 ¡ãC) according to ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.

Monel K500 nuts are a result of an age hardening process where aluminum and titanium are added to the nickel-copper base and then precipitated throughout the matrix.

The strength of this nickel steel alloy is maintained to 1200¡ã F but stays ductile and tough down to temperatures of 400¡ã F. Its melting range is 2400-2460¡ã F.

Monel 400 has very good mechanical properties at sub-zero temperatures, can be used up to 1000¡ãF, and has a melting point of 2370-2460¡ãF. However, Alloy 400 has low strength in the annealed condition, so various tempers can be used to increase the strength.

The chemical composition of Monel K500 ASTM is approximately 65% nickel, 30% copper and 3% aluminum. Monel 500 exhibits excellent corrosion resistance with added high strength corrosion fatigue and erosion resistance. Monel K500 fasteners are non-magnetic at high and low temperatures. The chemical composition of Monel K500 Nippo Flanges provides great resistance to a lot of corrosive environments, such as pitting, crevice corrosion, inter ¨C granular corrosion, and stress ¨C corrosion cracking. Monel K500 Spacer Flanges has useful resistance to boiling sulfuric acid up to 40 % concentration, to 60 % concentration at 176 Degree F and in all concentrations to 150 Degree F.

At room temperature settings, Monel 400 exhibits slight magnetic behavior, thus, the use of WNR 2.4360 Reducing Flange could also be extended to applications that require magnetic characteristics to a certain degree.

Monel K500 (alloy K500), UNS N05500 (QQ-N-286), is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-copper alloy that combines the corrosion resistance of Monel alloy 400 with greater strength (over 2x as strong) and hardness. It also has low permeability and is nonmagnetic to temperatures as low as -150¡ãF (-101¡ãC).
