Grade B7 is a heat-treated chromium-molybdenum low-alloy steel with minimum tensile strength requirement of 125 ksi (860 Mpa), yield 105 ksi (720 Mpa), and maximum hardness of 35HRC.

Chromium-molybdenum alloy steel has strong crack resistance under high temperature and high pressure. Chromium molybdenum is also resistant to hydrogen attack and hot sulfide corrosion cracking.

A335 P9 steel pipe material also contains manganese, silicon, carbon and phosphorus in its composition. The addition of these materials makes the material stronger with higher yield and tensile strengths. Due to the high chromium content, the redox effect is high.
