Nickel Alloy 400 is known for its resistance to a variety of corrosive conditions, including alkalis (or acids), salt water, hydrofluoric acid, and sulfuric acid. Since Monel 400 or Alloy 400 is a cold worked metal, this alloy has high hardness, stiffness and strength. Monel K500 Bolts, also known as Alloy K500, are composed of a nickel alloy that combines the excellent corrosion resistance of Monel 400 with increased strength and hardness. These additional properties of Monel K500 bolts are the result of an age hardening process in which aluminum and titanium are added to a nickel-copper matrix, which is then precipitated throughout. Compared to 400, this process increases the yield strength of K500 by a factor of approximately 3 (110ksi vs. 45ksi) and doubles the tensile strength (160ksi vs. 83ksi). Monel K500 bolts will maintain their strength down to 1200¡ãF and even maintain their ductility down to -400¡ãF.

The exception being that Monel K500 fasteners can be more prone to stress-corrosion cracking in some environments than Monel 400.
