Duplex 2205 stainless steel (ferritic and austenitic) is widely used in applications requiring good corrosion resistance and strength. Grade S31803 stainless steel was modified several times to form UNS S32205, which was recognized in 1996.

The chemical composition specifications stated in the norm must be met by the steel Super Duplex Plate. The content, in this case Thick Duplex Alloy 2507 Cold Rolled Sheet, must also meet the required mechanical properties.

The 2205 was developed to provide excellent machinability. Control of composition and inclusion type improves chip formation and reduces tool wear, resulting in higher machining efficiency and lower tool costs.

Duplex 2205 bolts are among the most commonly used duplex grades. These are called standard duplex steel fasteners. This grade, with a tighter specification, is captioned as F60, equating to UNS S32205. Consequently, S32205 can be dual-certified as S31803 but not vice-versa.

S32760 also has high strength and extended service life. It is 10% lighter than grade 316 steel, ideal for sub-zero use, and more cost-effective than nickel alloys. Stainless steel grade F55 can be easily machined and welded.

Duplex stainless steels have a mixed microstructure of austenite and ferrite, the aim being to produce a 50/50 mix, although, in commercial alloys, the mix may be 40/60 respectively.

Duplex 1.4462 round bars also have low thermal expansion and high thermal conductivity as well as high corrosion and erosion fatigue properties compared to austenite. The corrosion resistance of duplex 2205 is almost twice that of other austenitic stainless steels.

2507 nuts are highly resistant to carbide-related intergranular corrosion due to their low carbon content (0.020% in weight).

2205 fasteners are widely used in applications requiring good corrosion resistance and strength. Has excellent corrosion resistance; much higher than other grades. Duplex 2205 bolts (EN 1.4462) are made from an austenitic-ferritic stainless steel, which was designed to deliver higher strength and corrosion resistance than 300 series stainless steels. It helps users to avoid stress corrosion cracking that is typically seen with 316 and 317. Duplex 2205 bolts combine the qualities of stress corrosion cracking resistance and high strength derived from being a ferritic alloy along with its austenitic fabrication capabilities.

Due to the ferritic portion of the duplex structure of the alloy it is very resistant to stress corrosion cracking in warm chloride containing environments.

The advantage of the dual-phase structure is that it combines the advantages of ferritic alloys (resistance to stress corrosion cracking and high strength) with the advantages of austenitic alloys (ease of manufacture and corrosion resistance). The service temperature of 2205 duplex stainless steel should be limited to below 600¡ãF. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can make 2205 stainless steel brittle.

The idea of duplex stainless steels dates back to the 1920s with the first cast being made at Avesta in Sweden in 1930. The granular structure of duplex is a ferrite-austenite hybrid with a superior strength to weight ratio in comparison to 304 or 316. It balances the weldability of an austenitic with a pure ferritic and retains decent mechanical toughness in applications with exposure to colder ambient temperatures.

S31803 has been supplemented by S32205 (F60) which has a higher minimum Ni Cr and Mo.

The 2205 Duplex Stainless Pipe produced in accordance to ASTM A790 specification could be constructed by either a seamless construction or an automatic welding process.
