Grade 304 is a versatile, popular and economical choice for many applications. However, having said that, the uses and uses of 316 stainless steel rods are very different from 304 stainless steel rods. This variation provides the same corrosion resistance as 304, but with slightly lower mechanical properties.

Type 15-7MO is a semi-austenitic precipitation hardening stainless steel with high strength and hardness, good corrosion resistance and minimal deformation when heat treated.

Magnetic Response of Stainless Steel
Magnetic response is the attractive force of steel to a magnet. Austenitic grades are generally not magnetic, although a magnetic response can be induced in low austenitic grades by cold working. High nickel grades such as 316 and 310 will remain non-magnetic even when cold worked. All other grades are magnetic.

Hardening properties of stainless steel
The advantage of work-hardenable grades of stainless steel is that the strength of the metal can be significantly increased simply by cold working.
