The most common problem with stainless steel alloys is that they tend to undergo a process called oxidation. Oxidative corrosion can weaken the structural integrity of any project. Stainless steel round bars are available in three grades. 304 is the most common grade with easy weldability, good formability and corrosion resistance. Grade 316 offers excellent corrosion resistance, making it ideal for harsh environments such as salt water or heavy industrial areas. Like grade 304, it is also easy to weld, but more difficult to machine. Finally, grade 303 is easier to machine, drill and cut than other grades. However, it is not as suitable for welding as grades 304 and 316.
