Stainless steel round bars are available in three grades. 304 is the most common grade with easy weldability, good formability and corrosion resistance. Grade 316 offers excellent corrosion resistance, making it ideal for harsh environments such as salt water or heavy industrial areas. Like grade 304, it is also easy to weld, but more difficult to machine. Finally, grade 303 is easier to machine, drill and cut than other grades. However, it is not as suitable for welding as grades 304 and 316.

The hot-rolled and cold-drawn process helps improve bar dimensional tolerances, straightness, surface appearance, and overall physical properties. Low temperature resistance properties of stainless steel bars
Low temperature resistance is measured by ductility or toughness at subzero temperatures. At low temperatures, the tensile strength of austenitic stainless steels is significantly higher than ambient temperature. They also maintain excellent toughness. Ferritic, martensitic and precipitation hardening steels should not be used at sub-zero temperatures. The toughness of these grades drops significantly at low temperatures. In some cases, this drop occurred near room temperature.

Magnetic Response of Stainless Steel
Magnetic response is the attractive force of steel to a magnet. Austenitic grades are generally not magnetic, although a magnetic response can be induced in low austenitic grades by cold working.
