B7 and B7M shall be heat treated by quenching in a liquid medium and tempering. For B7M fasteners, the final heat treatment, which may be the tempering operation if conducted at 1150 ¡ãF [620 ¡ãC] minimum, shall be done after all machining and forming operations, including thread rolling and any type of cutting.

Annealing of SA 182 Gr F11 steel flanges is accomplished by water quenching by thorough immersion at 1725¡ãF – 1850¡ãF (941¡ãC – 1010¡ãC) and can only be hardened by cold work.

Alloy steel pipes are used for high temperature and very low temperature service (low temperature) in the energy industry, or for very high pressure applications. ASTM A335 Alloy Steel Pipe is suitable for ASTM A234 WPx Series Butt Weld Fittings (WP5, WP9, WP91) and A182 Fx Forged Fittings and Flanges (A182 F5, F9, F11, F22, F91). All of these materials have similar chemical and mechanical properties and can be joined or welded.

Chromium-molybdenum alloy steel has strong crack resistance under high temperature and high pressure. Chromium molybdenum is also resistant to hydrogen attack and hot sulfide corrosion cracking.

Grade B7 is a heat treated chromium molybdenum low alloy steel with a minimum tensile strength requirement of 125 ksi (860 Mpa), a yield strength of 105 ksi (720 Mpa) and a maximum hardness of 35HRC. Boltport produces B7 headed and headless bolts from alloy steel AISI 4140 bar stock or forgings. A193 Grade B7 is the most commonly used bolting size, plus A194 Grade 2H nuts are used for bolting carbon steel pipe. A193 B7 bolts are available in metric sizes from M6 to M180 and imperial sizes from 1/4 to 7 inches in diameter.

Although acceptable fouling levels are considered beneficial to the alloy, in moderate cases, fouling deposits on Astm A182 F9 flange surfaces can act as a barrier to excessive corrosion. When flanges are produced using specification ASTM A182, they work well at high temperatures, albeit in applications with high pressure.

A blind flange is a solid flange as shown below. The purpose of these is to block off a section of pipe or a nozzle on a vessel that is not used.

Pipe to ASTM A335 P11 can be cold drawn or hot rolled. Each tube shall be reheated for heat treatment – fully or isothermally annealed, normalized and tempered at a temperature not lower than 1200¡ãF (650¡ãC). Each pipe length shall be hydrostatically tested to ASTM A335 P11, along with dimensional inspection and visual inspection. Longitudinal or transverse tensile tests, flattening tests or bending tests are carried out for each heat.
