Duplex stainless steel has twice the compressive strength compared to austenitic stainless steel, and designers can reduce its weight compared to 316L and 317L. Alloy 2205 is particularly suitable for use in the -50¡ãF/+600¡ãF temperature range, and can also be used at lower temperatures under severe restrictions (especially for welded structures).

It is almost the same as AISI 4130 chrome-molybdenum alloy steel, but with a slightly higher carbon content. Compared to AISI/ASTM 4130 alloy steel, AISI 4140 steel has a higher carbon content, which provides higher strength and heat treating capability, but also has limited weldability.
