Duplex 2205 is a nitrogen enhanced duplex stainless steel designed to solve common corrosion problems encounutered with 300 series stainless steels.

Designers may have the option to reduce the wall thickness of the duplex 2205 welded pipe, because of its high yield strength. The yield strength of this material is almost two times that of the usually used austenitic stainless steel grade. Unlike austenitic steel pipe, the Duplex 2205 Tube may at times exhibit magnetic behavior because the microstructure of its alloy contains about 50% ferrite.

ASTM A479 Duplex Steel UNS S32205 Round Gaskets are nitrogen reinforced duplex alloys formed to address common corrosion problems found incidentally with 300 series alloys. ASME SA 479 Duplex Steel UNS S31803 Machined Washers are hardened at 1868 to 1958 degrees Fahrenheit and then water quenched.

This alloy resists chloride environments and sulfide stress corrosion. It is also roughly double the strength of standard austentic stainless steels.

The composition of UNS S32750 super duplex steel strip contains chromium, nickel and molybdenum.

S32760 is a super duplex stainless steel with a ferritic-austenitic microstructure.

Some of the typical applications of duplex steel grade 2205 are oil and gas exploration, processing equipment, transport, storage and chemical process, high chloride and marine environments, paper machines, liquor tanks, pulp, and paper digesters.

In the annealed condition, S31803 contains approximately 40-50% ferrite. S31803 is often referred to as the workhorse grade and is the most widely used grade in duplex stainless steel pipes. The use of S31803 stainless steel pipe should be limited to temperatures below 600¡ãF.

Duplex materials have the strength qualities of ferritic steels and the corrosion-resistant qualities of austenitic steels.

The duplex material contains bot the austenitic and ferrite structures in the metallurgy of the material. These properties bring the material the best of both ferritic and austenitic steel types. The flange is second most used joining method after selding. Flanges are used when joints need dismantling. It provides flexibility for maintenance. Flange connects the pipe with various equipment and valves. Breakup flanges are added in the pipeline system if regular maintenance in required during plant operation.
A flanged joint is composed of three separate and independent although interrdlated components; the flanges, the gaskets, and the bolting; which are assembled by yet another influence, the fitter. Special controls are required in the selection and application of all there elements to attain a joint, which has acceptable leak tightness.

2205 has good solderability. The motivation for welding dual-phase steels is to maintain the corrosion resistance, toughness and strength of the base metal in the weld metal and heat affected zone.

Mixed Austenitic Ferritic Microstructure ¨C The steel gets its name because the microstructure of the 2205 duplex stainless steel fastener alloy is a duplex or duplex alloy. This duality of austenitic ferrite leads to changes in the alloy.
