Higher chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen content results in a Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number (PREN) > 40, providing superior pitting and crevice corrosion capabilities to austenitic and duplex stainless steels in virtually all corrosive media, and critical pitting temperature Above 50¡ãC .

The inclusion of chromium imparts good corrosion resistance to austenitic grade 304. However, increasing the chromium content to about 25%, as in the case of 2205 duplex stainless steel pipe makes the alloy resilient across several media.

ASTM A479 Super Duplex UNS S32750 Fasteners is a mixed microstructure of austenite and ferrite (50/50) which has improved strength over ferritic and austenitic steel grades.

Alloy 2507 is a high strength duplex alloy. Super Duplex Plate is a dual ferritic and austenitic microstructured component designed with high concentrations of chromium, nickel and molybdenum. 2205 duplex pipe is not recommended to be used at a temperature above 572¡ãF. Due to the presence of higher chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen contents, 2205 duplex stainless steel tubes demonstrates superior corrosion resistant properties in comparison to the more conventionally used austenitic stainless steel grades 316 and 316L in most environments.

Duplex stainless steels are considered resistant to stress corrosion cracking because they are not as resistant to this form of corrosion as ferritic stainless steels.

UNS S32205 nuts (also known as S31803) are manufactured from high-grade duplex 2205 stainless steel. Since this material is composed of at least 22% chromium, 6% nickel and 3% molybdenum it can withstand several unique types of environmental inflexibilities that other metals cannot such as corrosion, cracking, erosion, pitting and more. Super duplex stainless steel 2205 nuts also provide twice the mechanical strength compared to standard stainless steel.

The presence of ferrite in the duplex 2205 welded pipe is what provides for an enhanced performance of this stainless steel grade in caustic media containing environments.
