Duplex 2205 stainless steels are called “duplex” because they have a two-phase microstructure consisting of ferritic and austenitic stainless steel grains. When duplex stainless steel melts, it solidifies from the liquid phase to a fully ferritic structure. As the material cools to room temperature, about half of the ferrite grains transform into austenite grains (“islands”). The result is a microstructure of approximately 50% austenite and 50% ferrite.

Duplex 1.4462 round bars also have low thermal expansion and high thermal conductivity as well as high corrosion and erosion fatigue properties compared to austenite. The corrosion resistance of duplex 2205 is almost twice that of other austenitic stainless steels.

Alloy 2205 (UNS S32305/S31803) is a 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, 5-6% nickel, nitrogen alloyed duplex stainless steel pipe with high general, localized, and stress corrosion resistance properties in addition to high strength and excellent impact toughness.

ASTM A182 F51 equates to UNS S31803. This was the original caption for a 22% Cr duplex stainless steel.

Duplex 2205 stainless steel round bars (ASTM A276/ ASTM A479) exhibit good heat resistance up to 300¡ã. SS Rod can be easily welded by most standard methods, the only mandatory requirement is the use of filler metal. Due to its high strength, machinability is low.

The flange is second most used joining method after selding. Flanges are used when joints need dismantling. It provides flexibility for maintenance. Duplex 2205 is a nitrogen enhanced duplex stainless steelthat was developed to combat common corrosion problems encountered with the 300 series stainless steels. ¡°Duplex¡± describes a family of stainless steels that are neither fully austenitic, like 304 stainless, nor purely ferritic, like 430 stainless. The structure of 2205 duplex stainless steel consists of austenite pools surrounded by a continuous ferrite phase. In the annealed condition, 2205 contains approximately 40-50% ferrite. Often referred to as the work horse grade, 2205 is the most widely used grade in the duplex family of stainless steels.

Duplex 2507 has high resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, high Strength, and superior resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion.

UNS S32205 nuts (also known as S31803) are manufactured from high-grade duplex 2205 stainless steel. Since this material is composed of at least 22% chromium, 6% nickel and 3% molybdenum it can withstand several unique types of environmental inflexibilities that other metals cannot such as corrosion, cracking, erosion, pitting and more. Super duplex stainless steel 2205 nuts also provide twice the mechanical strength compared to standard stainless steel.

ASTM A479 Super Duplex UNS S32750 Fasteners is a mixed microstructure of austenite and ferrite (50/50) which has improved strength over ferritic and austenitic steel grades.

Duplex 2205 Tube may at times exhibit magnetic behavior because the microstructure of its alloy contains about 50% ferrite.
