UNS N08800 nickel-chromium-iron as the base metals 800 Incoloy bar

The nickel content in UNS N08800 bars provides excellent resistance to chloride ion stress-related corrosion cracking, which in turn is another important feature of nickel alloy 800h round bars.

Inconel 800 round bars have excellent cold forming properties, often attributed to nickel-chromium alloys. When Inconel 800 is cold formed, it extensively produces a distinct undulating surface known as “orange peel”. ASTM B408 UNS N08811 can be welded by conventional techniques used on stainless steel.

Variations of this grade are available in 2 forms, Incoloy 800H and Incoloy 800HT. The 800 variety has a higher carbon content than the straight 800 variety, which allows for higher creep. Incoloy 800 HT has a restricted elemental structure within the standard 800H chemical composition range, but also requires heat treatment. Variations in carbon, aluminium and titanium make the 3 grades 800, 800H and 800 HT have similar properties, but are not 100% identical, so this group needs to be split into 3 alloys.
