B7 and B7M shall be heat treated by quenching in a liquid medium and tempering. For B7M fasteners, the final heat treatment, which may be the tempering operation if conducted at 1150 ¡ãF [620 ¡ãC] minimum, shall be done after all machining and forming operations, including thread rolling and any type of cutting.

After hot working, forgings should be cooled to a temperature below 1000¡ãF (538¡ãC) prior to heat treatment in accordance with ASTM A182. Low alloy steels and ferritic and martensitic stainless steels shall be heat treated in accordance with ASTM A182.

SA 182 Gr F1 Slip on Flanges also known as SO flanges. This is a flange that slides over the pipe and has an internal design that is slightly larger than the pipe.

Chrome alloy steel flanges are manufactured in accordance with ASTM A182 F11/F12 and are widely used in nuclear power plants, power plants, water systems, electric power, oil fields, pipeline engineering, natural gas, marine engineering, shipbuilding and other industries. These flanges are harder and stronger than regular steel, but not as corrosion resistant as stainless steel.

ASTM A182 F12 alloy steel flanges also contain niobium to prevent sensitization and resulting intergranular corrosion.

It is a standard specification defining typical chemical composition, mechanical properties, hardness requirement, preferential heat treatment, product marking, certification and other requirements, suitable for bolting used in pressure vessel service, valves, flanges and fittings.
