Hex bolts are essentially threaded rods. There are also different varieties of stud types. B7 hex bolts have a higher hardness up to 321HBW, while B7M have a lower hardness up to 235HBW. ASTM A193 Grade B7 hex bolts are externally threaded fasteners without a head that use two bolts on both sides, exchanging the conventional “bolt and nut” assembly. A193 B7 hex bolts are primarily used for flanged connections, depending on their thread style and design. ASTM A193 B7 is a chrome-molybdenum steel with similar strength to Grade 5 properties, typically used in high temperature and high pressure applications. Common uses for grade 8 bolts are military, heavy-duty manufacturing, and other demanding mechanical applications where high stress and high bearing pressure are major factors.
