Hence, the content of carbon has been reduced in the Stainless Steel 316L Bright Annealed Tube, which is indicated by the letter L after the alloy grade. A reduced carbon content in seamless stainless steel tubing 316l also makes it structurally weaker in comparison to the regular grade 316 alloy. In order to bring the mechanical properties of the 316l stainless steel tube seamless at par with grade 316, the alloy has a significant addition of nitrogen.
