A182 F316L Bleed ring chromium protects the metal from corrosion and related damage

This material is widely used in large gauge welded components and weld annealing is only required when the material is used in high stress environments. Due to the material’s high corrosion resistance, 316L has a wide range of uses, especially in marine applications.

Steel is primarily an alloy of iron and carbon, known to have been in use since 1800 BC. The proper carbon concentration in iron gives it great tensile strength and very low cost. This is the main reason why it is one of the most widely used alloys in production today. Type 316L is a low carbon version of 316 stainless steel. With the addition of molybdenum, the steel is popular in severely corrosive environments as the material is not affected by boundary carbide precipitation (sensitization).
