Chromium Molybdenum Alloy Steel or Chromium Molybdenum, CrMo is an alloy steel used for high temperature and high pressure service. Chromium molybdenum has a better strength-to-weight ratio than steel, which enables designers to use thinner walled tubing or smaller diameter tubing to reduce overall weight.

The ASTM A333 specification covers carbon steel pipes for low temperature applications. LTCS or Low Temperature Carbon Steel is an alloy covered under this specific specification. A333 carbon steel cryogenic tubing specified by ASTM has moderate tensile properties and good hardness, but low corrosion resistance. HastelloyC-276 (Hastelloy) is a tungsten-nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy with extremely low silicon-carbon content and is considered to be an all-around corrosion-resistant aluminum alloy. The key moisture-resistant chlorine, various air-oxidizing fluorides, isopropyl titanate solutions, hydrochloric acid and air-oxidizing salts, have good corrosion resistance in ultra-low temperature and standing temperature sulfuric acid. Therefore, in the past 30 years, it has been widely used in extremely corrosive natural environments such as chemical plants, petrochemicals, flue gas desulfurization, pulp and paper industry, and environmental protection.

Corrosion resistance

The aluminum alloy has the following characteristics: 1. It has good corrosion resistance to most corrosive substances under the two conditions of air oxidation and repair. ¢ÚIt has good resistance to pitting corrosion, void corrosion and intergranular corrosion. The higher content of Mo and Cr makes the aluminum alloy resistant to corrosion by chloride ion content, and the W element further improves the corrosion resistance. At the same time, Hastelloy C-276 aluminum alloy is one of the only types of raw materials that are resistant to wet chlorine, hypochlorite and chlorine dioxide saturated solutions. Ester solution has obvious corrosion resistance. It is one of the very few raw materials that can be used as a hot sulfuric acid saturated solution.

ASTM A182 Gr F9 flanges are typically designed for applications with high temperature requirements. Alloys used to produce flanges according to this specification include wrought or rolled alloys and several stainless steel grades.

Due to the higher mechanical properties of a335 gr P91 alloy pipe, it is widely used in these industries. SA 335 gr P91 alloy steel pipes are available in different sizes and shapes. Wall thicknesses vary from 3 to 12 mm depending on the diameter and pressure rating of the pipe.

A182-F11 has high thermal strength (¦Äb¡Ý440MPa) and oxidation resistance at high temperature, and has certain resistance to hydrogen corrosion.

Besides these elements the addition of trace amounts of both Manganese and silicon, other set of common alloying elements, provides the alloy steel threaded flanges with excellent deoxidizing capabilities.

In applications where higher working pressures are a prerequisite, the use of seamless pipes is justified. Although stronger than welded pipe, the cost is much higher. In addition, in welded products, there is a greater risk of intergranular corrosion in the heat-affected weld zone. The obvious difference between alloy steel welded pipe and seamless product is the transverse seam along the length of the pipe

Although acceptable fouling levels are considered beneficial to the alloy, in moderate cases, fouling deposits on Astm A182 F9 flange surfaces can act as a barrier to excessive corrosion. When flanges are produced using specification ASTM A182, they work well at high temperatures, albeit in applications with high pressure.
