Super Duplex UNS S32750 is the most common super duplex grade in the market. UNS S32750 is a duplex stainless steel especially designed for service in aggressive chloride-containing environments.

ASTM A240 Type 2205 Plate is a duplex stainless steel plate that is used extensively in various industries such as chemical processing, oil and gas exploration, and marine engineering. SA 240 GR 2205 Sheet is made from grade 2205 stainless steel, which is a combination of ferritic and austenitic steel.

ASTM A182 Grade F51 is the standard duplex stainless steel and is also called ¡°duplex 2205¡± or ¡°alloy 2205¡±.

Duplex 2205 stainless steels are called “duplex” because they have a two-phase microstructure consisting of ferritic and austenitic stainless steel grains. When duplex stainless steel melts, it solidifies from the liquid phase to a fully ferritic structure. As the material cools to room temperature, about half of the ferrite grains transform into austenite grains (“islands”). The result is a microstructure of approximately 50% austenite and 50% ferrite.

Duplex 2205 round steel contains 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, and 5-6% nickel. In addition to excellent impact toughness and high strength, it also has high general, local and stress corrosion resistance.

Duplex stainless steels are considered resistant to stress corrosion cracking because they are not as resistant to this form of corrosion as ferritic stainless steels.

Grade 904L is less resistant to nitric acid than grades 304L and 310L, which are free of molybdenum. This steel grade needs to be solution treated following cold working, to achieve maximum stress corrosion cracking resistance under critical environments

There are different pressure ratings for the flanges based on the system of measurement. Under the ANSI standard, the pressure classes range from class 150 through class 2500.

Duplex steels are also magnetic, a property that can be used to easily distinguish them from ordinary austenitic stainless grades.

Stainless steel grade UNS S31803 is highly resistant to intergranular corrosion due to its low carbon content, which prevents carbide precipitation at grain boundaries.

2205 duplex stainless steel is a cost effective solution for many applications where the 300 series stainless steels are susceptible to chloride stress corrosion cracking. Stress corrosion cracking occurs when stainless steels are subjected to tensile stress, while in contact with solutions containing chlorides. Increasing temperatures also increase the susceptibility of stainless steels to stress corrosion cracking.

The duplex microstructure gives this grade high strength UNS S32750 a low coefficient of thermal expansion and higher heat conductivity than austenitic steels and is suitable for working temperatures up to 300¡ãC.

The SA 182-F51 S31803 comes under ASME B16.47, B16.48 and B16.5 standards with sizes ranging from 1/8 NB to 48NB.

The properties of S31803 nuts are even double those of standard austenitic grades.

In comparison to SS316, Duplex 2205 has been tested under reverse bending stresses at room temperature. The results show that the fatigue limit/yield strength is about twice as high for Duplex 2205.

Super Duplex Stainless Steel is known to have better stress corrosion, cracking resistance and mechanical properties than any other type of steel.

UNS S2750 Super Duplex Fasteners have good weldability and can be joined to itself or other materials by shielded metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, plasma arc welding, flux cored wire or submerged arc welding.
