Nickel Alloy 400 and Monel 400, also known as UNS N04400, is a ductile nickel-copper-based alloy consisting primarily of two-thirds nickel and one-third copper. Nickel Alloy 400 is known for its resistance to a variety of corrosive conditions, including alkalis (or acids), salt water, hydrofluoric acid, and sulfuric acid. Since Monel 400 or Alloy 400 is a cold worked metal, this alloy has high hardness, stiffness and strength. By cold working ASTM B164 UNS N04400 bar stock, the alloy is subjected to higher levels of mechanical stress, which in turn causes changes in the alloy’s microstructure.

It demonstrates good resistance to neutral and reducing environments. This alloy creates a tenacious oxide, protective film that does not spall off, but it retains superior oxidation resistance at soaring temperatures.

However, alloy C276 is generally not recommended for high temperature service. 254 SMO (1.4547) fasteners are made from a high-end stainless steel alloy developed for resistance to salt water and chloride corrosion. This 6-Moly (6% molybdenum) alloy has good localized corrosion resistance, and 254 SMO provides much higher strength than other austenitic stainless steels.

Inconel X-750 Nuts are fasteners made from an alloy containing nickel and cobalt as base elements, which contains chromium, with additions of titanium and aluminum. Inconel X-750 fasteners are highly resistant to chemical corrosion and oxidation, with high stress rupture strength and low creep rates at high stresses up to 1500¡ãF (816¡ãC).

Material for forgings shall consist of ingots or forged, rolled, or strandcast blooms, billets, slabs or bars.
