C276 is forged between 2250/1750oF (1230/955oC) and then soaked at the forging temperature for 30 minutes per inch of billet or ingot section thickness. Forging should begin immediately, the billet is removed from the reheat furnace, a 25/40% reduction helps retain as much internal heat as possible. Monel K-500 combines the excellent corrosion resistance of Monel 400 with the added benefits of higher strength and hardness. Performance can be improved by adding aluminum and titanium to the nickel-copper matrix and by heating under controlled conditions to precipitate submicroscopic particles of Ni 3 (Ti, Al) throughout the matrix.

The strength of this nickel steel alloy is maintained to 1200¡ã F but stays ductile and tough down to temperatures of 400¡ã F. Its melting range is 2400-2460¡ã F.

The premium composition of molybdenum and nickel content of c276 is used to make nickel steel alloys. It helps resist crevice and pitting corrosion in reducing environments. Chromium, on the other hand, is used to impart resistance to oxidizing media.

The lap-joint flanges have the nearly same shape as the socket weld flanges except for the weld gap. Thus, their use in applications that can cause corrosion is advantageous. Another flange type is the threaded flanges. The threaded flanges are very useful in specific applications since they do not require welding for fixation.

The addition of copper to this grade gives it better corrosion resistance than conventional chromium-nickel stainless steels, especially against sulfuric, phosphoric and acetic acids. However, the use of hydrochloric acid is limited.
