Since these oil storage tanks are located in the Arabian Gulf (saline conditions) the use of this material was an optimal solution for the environment. In addition to this, the coating of the flanges was also specially selected due to its protective qualities.

Stainless steel 304 tubing is available as seamless or welded. Pipes can be drawn as seamless tubes from a single billet or welded from strip or sheet. There are different welding methods such as resistance welding for smaller pipes and electrofusion welding for larger diameter pipes.

A butt weld pipe fitting is designed to be welded on site at its end(s) to connect pipe(s) together and allow change in direction or pipe diameter, or branching or ending.

Manufacturing 310/310S stainless steel pipe is forged in the temperature range of 975 – 1175¡ãC. The heavy lifting takes place at 1050¡ãC, and a lightweight finish is applied to the bottom of the range. Annealing after forging is recommended to remove all stress during forging. These alloys can be easily cold formed by standard methods and equipment.

The fusion welding properties of stainless steel 304 are excellent with or without fillers. The recommended filler rod and electrode for use with 304 stainless steel is grade 308 stainless steel. For 304L, the recommended packing is 308L. Heavy welded sections may require post weld annealing. The 304L does not require this step. If post weld heat treatment is not possible, grade 321 may be used.

316 / 316L tubing is used mainly as seamless for pressure operations in extremely corrosive environments, such as acid processing and waste treatment equipment and salt water marine applications.
