The flange is second most used joining method after selding. Flanges are used when joints need dismantling. It provides flexibility for maintenance. A flanged joint is composed of three separate and independent although interrdlated components; the flanges, the gaskets, and the bolting; which are assembled by yet another influence, the fitter. Special controls are required in the selection and application of all there elements to attain a joint, which has acceptable leak tightness.
A flange is a protruded ridge, lip or rim, either external or internal, that serves to increase strength (as the flange of an iron beam such as an I-beam or a T-beam); for easy attachment/transfer of contact force with another object (as the flange on the end of a pipe, steam cylinder, etc., or on the lens mount of a camera); or for stabilizing and guiding the movements of a machine or its parts (as the inside flange of a rail car or tram wheel, which keep the wheels from running off the rails). Stainless steel 316 butt weld joints are made of chrome-nickel-molybdenum alloy austenitic stainless steel. The material has good corrosion resistance, similar strength to 304 grade steel, and good hardness.

316 pipe bend contains a minimum 2.0% molybdenum which makes it much more corrosion resistant than 304 however, as it is a more expensive element, generally makes 316 a more expensive grade of metal.

A butt weld pipe fitting is designed to be welded on site at its end(s) to connect pipe(s) together and allow change in direction or pipe diameter, or branching or ending.

310S stainless steel has good high temperature resistance. When the temperature exceeds 800 [1], it begins to soften, and the allowable stress begins to decrease continuously. The maximum operating temperature is 1200 ¡ãC. Due to the high content of nickel (Ni) and chromium (Cr), it has good oxidation resistance, corrosion resistance, acid and alkali resistance, and high temperature resistance. After the content, the strength is improved due to its solid solution strengthening effect. The chemical composition characteristics of austenitic stainless steel are based on chromium and nickel with elements such as molybdenum, tungsten, niobium and titanium added. Therefore, it has high strength and creep strength at high temperature.

904L (N08904, 14539) super austenitic stainless steel contains 14.0-18.0% chromium, 24.0-26.0% nickel, 4.5% molybdenum. 904L super austenitic stainless steel is a low-carbon, high-nickel, molybdenum austenitic stainless acid-resistant steel, which is a proprietary material imported from French H¡¤S Company. It has good activation-passivation transformation ability, excellent corrosion resistance, good corrosion resistance in non-oxidizing acids such as sulfuric acid, acetic acid, formic acid, phosphoric acid, and good corrosion resistance in neutral chloride-containing media Excellent pitting corrosion resistance, as well as good crevice corrosion resistance and stress corrosion resistance. It is suitable for various concentrations of sulfuric acid below 70 ¡ãC, and has good corrosion resistance in acetic acid of any concentration and temperature under normal pressure, as well as in the mixed acid of formic acid and acetic acid.

Grade 316 is also primarily composed of iron, and again contains significant amounts of nickel and chromium¡ª10-14% and 16-18%, respectively¡ªand small amounts of carbon, manganese, molybdenum, and silicon. For this reason, grade 316 stainless steel is often preferred for use in marine environments.

The composition of stainless steel 304L flanges contains carbon, nickel, silicon, nitrogen, sulfur, manganese, phosphorus and chromium. 304L is available in different grades depending on the carbon content.
