The flange is second most used joining method after selding. Flanges are used when joints need dismantling. It provides flexibility for maintenance. Flange connects the pipe with various equipment and valves. Breakup flanges are added in the pipeline system if regular maintenance in required during plant operation.
A flanged joint is composed of three separate and independent although interrdlated components; the flanges, the gaskets, and the bolting; which are assembled by yet another influence, the fitter. Special controls are required in the selection and application of all there elements to attain a joint, which has acceptable leak tightness.
A flange is a protruded ridge, lip or rim, either external or internal, that serves to increase strength (as the flange of an iron beam such as an I-beam or a T-beam); for easy attachment/transfer of contact force with another object (as the flange on the end of a pipe, steam cylinder, etc., or on the lens mount of a camera); or for stabilizing and guiding the movements of a machine or its parts (as the inside flange of a rail car or tram wheel, which keep the wheels from running off the rails). Super Duplex 2507 Lock Washers has excellent corrosion resistance in marine environments.Lock washers are designed to be tightened to a required torque beneath an ordinary fastener. They exert a spring tension that keeps the fastener from vibrating loose. They are often attached to the nut side of the fastener.

This increase in alloyants is what gives the super duplex stainless steels greater corrosion resistance properties.

Some steels also contain Mo, Cu, Nb, Ti, N and other alloy elements. The advantage of the dual-phase structure is that it combines the advantages of ferritic alloys (resistance to stress corrosion cracking and high strength) with the advantages of austenitic alloys (ease of manufacture and corrosion resistance). The service temperature of 2205 duplex stainless steel should be limited to below 600¡ãF. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can make 2205 stainless steel brittle.

Super Duplex has all the benefits of other duplex steels, specifically the strength benefits of their biphasic structural composition of equal parts austenitic and ferritic stainless steel. This microstructure makes all duplex steels around twice as strong as regular single structure ferritic or austenitic steels, but Super Duplex has a higher chromium and molybdenum content, giving it considerably increased resistance to corrosion than its counterparts.

Offering the industry an improved stainless steel corrosion solution, Duplex 2205 Bolts have good sulfide corrosion resistance, as well as chloride pitting and crevice corrosion superior to 317L. The combination of chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen provides Duplex 2205 bolts with good chloride pitting and crevice corrosion protection, which makes them useful in marine environments, brackish water, bleaching operations, closed loop water systems and some food processing applications.

Alloy 2205 gets the name Duplex because it is composed of two different types of grains. 40-50% of its grain structure is austenite and 50-60% of it is ferrite. It is closely related to, but much more popular than Alloy 255. In most environments, it surpasses 317L in crevice corrosion resistance. 2205 Duplex excels in chloride environments and resists hydrogen sulfide. 2205 Duplex has almost twice the strength of 316L. Due to the lower nickel and molybdenum content, it is less costly than Alloy C276. Among the places where 2205 Duplex is used include pressure vessels, heat exchangers and scrubbing systems.

A butt weld pipe fitting is designed to be welded on site at its end(s) to connect pipe(s) together and allow change in direction or pipe diameter, or branching or ending.

This fitting then becomes part of a system for transporting fluids (oil, gas, steam, chemicals, …) in a safe and efficient manner, over short or long distances.

Duplex stainless is a mixed microstructure of austenitic and ferrite (50/50) which has improved strength over ferritic and austenitic steel grades with similar corrosion resistance qualities.

Duplex stainless steels have a microstructure which is 50% ferritic and 50% austenitic. This composition gives them a better strength than either ferritic or austenitic steels. Further details about this topic are given below (see ASTM A790 pipes).

Duplex variety stainless steels work well in those applications which contain a high concentration of chlorine. Chloride ions, which are normally detrimental to conventional stainless steels, do not cause any damage to the much stronger Duplex Stainless Steel Pipe. The chemistry of this steel ensures better performance with higher mechanical properties in comparison to austenitic stainless steel pipes.

The duplex microstructure gives this grade high strength UNS S32750 a low coefficient of thermal expansion and higher heat conductivity than austenitic steels and is suitable for working temperatures up to 300¡ãC.

Duplex 2507 possesses excellent mechanical properties. Often a light gauge of 2507 material can be used to achieve the same design strength of a thicker nickel alloy.

The pressure capacities of the flanges can also be expressed in pressure numbers. The astm a182 f53 uns s32750 flange types come in pressure numbers ranging from PN6 through PN64.

Super Duplex stainless for e.g. alloy UNS S32750, has a mixed microstructure of both austenite as well as ferrite in an equal or 50/50 ratio.

The corrosion resistance comes from the addition of alloying material, mostly the chromium content. The ASTM A790 Pipes are resistant to pitting corrosion and crevice corrosion. The pipes could also be electric fusion welded.

The 2205 was developed to provide excellent machinability. Control of composition and inclusion type improves chip formation and reduces tool wear, resulting in higher machining efficiency and lower tool costs.

Duplex 2205 stainless steel (ferritic and austenitic) is widely used in applications requiring good corrosion resistance and strength. Grade S31803 stainless steel was modified several times to form UNS S32205, which was recognized in 1996.

S32760 also has high strength and extended service life. It is 10% lighter than grade 316 steel, ideal for sub-zero use, and more cost-effective than nickel alloys. Stainless steel grade F55 can be easily machined and welded.

The ASTM A182 F53 UNS S32750 Flange comes under the ASTM A182 specification for high temperature and high pressure services.

ASTM A182 F53 Flange is a high strength flange that has 550MPa minimum yield strength and 800MPa minimum tensile strength.

At this temperature, duplex steel flanges over 300 degrees Celsius are still protected from embrittlement due to corrosion. Duct capability is also excellent at low temperatures. Fabrication is done only with tools assigned to stainless steel materials. Must be properly cleaned before use. This is done to protect the stainless steel from cross-contamination of the corroding metal.

The structure of 2205 duplex stainless steel consists of a pool of austenite surrounded by a continuous ferrite phase. In the annealed condition, 2205 contains approximately 40-50% ferrite. 2205 is often referred to as the workhorse grade and is the most widely used grade in the duplex stainless steel family.

2507 Super Duplex Stainless Steel was designed for demanding applications which require exceptional strength and corrosion resistance, such as chemical process, petrochemical, and seawater equipment.

The presence of ferrite in the duplex 2205 welded pipe is what provides for an enhanced performance of this stainless steel grade in caustic media containing environments.
