AL6XN is a superaustenitic stainless steel with outstanding resistance to chloride pitting, crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. It has high nickel (24%), molybdenum (6.3%), nitrogen and chromium contents that give it excellent resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, chloride pitting, and exceptional general corrosion resistance. AL6XN is primarily used for its improved pitting and crevice corrosion resistance in chlorides. It is a formable and weldable stainless steel.

It is common for 316 and 316L to be stocked in “Dual Certified” form – mainly in plate and pipe. These items have chemical and mechanical properties complying with both 316 and 316L specifications. Such dual certified product does not meet 316H specification and may be unacceptable for high temperature applications.

Steel flanges provide an easy access for cleaning, inspection or modification. They usually come in round shapes but they can also come in square and rectangular forms. A flanged joint is composed of three separate and independent although interrdlated components; the flanges, the gaskets, and the bolting; which are assembled by yet another influence, the fitter. Special controls are required in the selection and application of all there elements to attain a joint, which has acceptable leak tightness.

The higher alloy content of super-austenitic steels makes them more expensive. Other steels can provide similar properties at a lower cost and are preferred in some applications. [citation needed] Low carbon versions, such as 316L or 304L, are used to avoid welding-induced corrosion problems.

254 SMO is a high alloy austenitic stainless steel developed for use in seawater and other corrosive chlorine-containing media. The steel has the following properties: excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, high resistance to general corrosion and high resistance to stress corrosion cracking. 254 SMo / EN 1.4547 / UNS S31254 / 6Mo are generally used in pumps, valves, chokes, pipes/flanges and washers and have a high resistance to general corrosion.

316 Stainless Steel Characteristics
Type 316 stainless steel tubing is similar to 304, but with the addition of molybdenum, which improves the alloys corrosion resistance. The austenitic structure allows excellent toughness, even down to extremely low temperatures. These grades have excellent weldability, with or without the addition of filler metal. 316 / 316L stainless tube is available as round, square or rectangular shapes. It is available as welded and seamless. It contains additional molybdenum and nickel than 304 stainless, which increases corrosion resistance of the metal. Decreased weldability is exhibited in 316L alloys due to increased carbon in the alloy. It is used for tube in more aggressive environments than 304 tube.

The SS 904L coil is used in heat exchangers and in high temperature applications because of their high melting range of 1300 to 1390 degrees Celsius.

Chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen increase resistance to pitting corrosion. Nickel imparts the austenitic structure.

Both 316 and 316L stainless steel alloys are marine steels, but they do have some key differences. The composition of 316L has a lower proportion of carbon. To meet the requirements of 316L stainless steel, the carbon content cannot exceed 0.03%. This reduces the risk of carbon precipitation, making it a better choice for welding to ensure maximum corrosion resistance.

The increased nickel content in 316 SS helps improve its corrosion resistance compared to 304. Therefore, 316 is recommended for use in coastal areas with increased salt content, or in areas with high levels of polluting or corrosive chemicals, especially chlorides.

254SMO (UNS S31254) is an austenitic stainless steel compatible with common austenitic stainless steels, designed with high levels of chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen for maximum resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.

Stainless steel, thanks to its passive chromium oxide coating, does not react with other substances. Thanks to this, it can be freely used in contact with food. Strict HACCP standards require the use of stainless steel in contact with food. All because steel is non-toxic and easy to keep clean. Stainless steel elements can be cleaned with most common detergents and we do not have to worry that the steel surfaces will lose their properties or change their appearance.

It is an austenitic stainless steel. It is less electrically and thermally conductive than carbon steel. It is magnetic, but less magnetic than steel. ASTM A240 UNS N08904 material can be solution heat treated at 1090-1175¡ãC followed by quenching. Alloy 310 can be used in moderately caburizing, moderately oxidizing, nitriding, cementing and thermal cycling applications when not used at the maximum service temperature.
