AL6XN is a superaustenitic stainless steel with outstanding resistance to chloride pitting, crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. AL6XN is a 6 moly alloy that was developed for and is used in highly aggressive environments. It has high nickel (24%), molybdenum (6.3%), nitrogen and chromium contents that give it excellent resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, chloride pitting, and exceptional general corrosion resistance. AL6XN is primarily used for its improved pitting and crevice corrosion resistance in chlorides. It is a formable and weldable stainless steel.

304 fittings are standard “18/8” stainless steel; it is the most versatile and widely used stainless steel available in a wider range of products, forms and finishes than any other. It has excellent forming and welding characteristics.

Stainless Steel 304 Pipe Fittings are made from seamless steel pipes whereas ERW pipes are made from ERW steel pipes.

S31803 is the Unified Numbering System (UNS) designation for the original duplex stainless steel. The UNS system was created by multiple trade groups in the 1970s to reduce confusion when the same alloy was called different things, and vice versa. Each metal is represented by a letter followed by five numbers, where the letter represents the metal series, i.e. S for stainless steel.

For paper mill applications requiring lower alloy grades that do not have sufficient corrosion resistance. Based on a 22% chromium content, they have a combined austenitic:ferritic microstructure that provides greater strength, corrosion resistance and cost-effectiveness.

The UNS S31803 (ASTM F51) specification has been largely superseded by UNS S32205 (1.4462, ASTM F60). This reflects their desire to maximize the alloy’s corrosion properties, thanks to the development of the AOD steelmaking process, which allows for tighter control of composition. In addition, it allows to influence the nitrogen addition level rather than just being present as a background element. Therefore, the highest performing duplex grades seek to maximize the content of chromium (Cr), molybdenum (Mo) and nitrogen (N).

The different types of flanges such as the 254 SMO Slip on Flange have good corrosion resistance due to the composition. The flanges are also stronger than the ordinary stainless steel flanges with 650MPa minimum tensile strength, 300MPa minimum yield strength and 35% elongation rate.

Applications for 310s stainless steel include the production of cryogenic components and use in furnaces, particularly in the construction of burners, heat exchangers, doors, fans and ducts. Since these grades of stainless steel can withstand very hot temperatures, it is also commonly used in the food processing industry as well as in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. They are also used in fluidized bed furnaces, coal burners, grills, ducts and wind boxes.

304 stainless steel is the most common stainless steel. The steel contains both chromium (between 18% and 20%) and nickel (between 8% and 10.5%)[1] metals as the main non-iron constituents. SS304 is also used to make pressure vessels, wheel covers as well as for building facades.

The standard for ASTM A276 specification covers both, hot -finished or cold-finished stainless steel bars with the exception of re-forged bars. The ASTM A276 Type 304 is one of the most commonly used and versatile grades of stainless steel.

The standards vary from B16.5, B16.47 and in different series A and B. There are different types based on the production such as the ASME SA182 grade 316TI Weld neck flange. Due to its excellent corrosion resistance and value, 304 stainless steel pipe is the most commonly used type of pipe in the world. Stainless steel 304 piping can withstand corrosion from most oxidizing acids. Due to its durability, the 304 is easy to sterilize and is ideal for kitchen and food applications.

Austenitic stainless steels are susceptible to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in halide environments. Although type 316 alloys are more resistant to SCC than 18Cr-8 Ni alloys due to their molybdenum content, they are still susceptible. Conditions that produce SCC are: (1) the presence of halide ions (usually chloride ions), (2) residual tensile stress, and (3) temperatures in excess of about 120¡ãF (49¡ãC).
