It has high nickel (24%), molybdenum (6.3%), nitrogen and chromium contents that give it excellent resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, chloride pitting, and exceptional general corrosion resistance. AL6XN is primarily used for its improved pitting and crevice corrosion resistance in chlorides. It is a formable and weldable stainless steel.

Types 304 and 316 are very common grades of stainless steel and refer to only one type of stainless steel. Originally developed to combat seawater corrosion, AL6XN has expanded its role as a good mid-range corrosion resistant alloy. AL6XN screw is a low carbon, high purity, nitrogen containing “super austenitic” stainless steel alloy. AL 6XN threaded rods are super austenitic AL 6XN threaded rods are super austenitic, made from an alloy containing limited carbon content of chromium, nickel and molybdenum. AL 6XN threaded rod is resistant to chloride stress corrosion cracking.

The high amounts of nickel and chromium in austenitic stainless steels provide excellent mechanical properties, as well as excellent corrosion resistance.

Compared to 302, stainless steel 309 studs have a low carbon, high chromium stainless steel for cold heading, typically for hot heading of large diameter or long bolts. One of the best properties of Grade 309 is its resistance to high or elevated temperatures. Similar to grade 310, the high chromium content in stainless steel 309 gives it this heat resistance.

Alloy 317L (UNS S31703) is a low carbon corrosion resistant austenitic chromium nickel molybdenum stainless steel. High levels of these elements ensure that the alloy has chloride pitting and general corrosion resistance superior to traditional 304/304L and 316/316L grades. This alloy provides increased resistance relative to 316L in highly corrosive environments with sulfur-containing media, chlorides and other halides.
