Hastelloy is a corrosion-resistant nickel alloy that contains other chemical elements such as chromium and molybdenum. This material has high temperature resistance and excellent corrosion resistance. Hastelloy C276 is one of the Hastelloy grades used in the oil and gas industry.

It can be easily welded and processed by standard shop fabrication practices.

This nickel alloy exhibits characteristics like good corrosion resistance, good weldability and high strength.

The number of welds on a spool must be kept in a minimum count. The dimension of the spacing between circumferential welds and the center lines must not be larger than the four times the wall thickness of the pipe or fitting. After the main welds, tacks welds must be done precisely. All welds in the spools must be implemented according to proper Welding Procedure Specification (WPS). After the welding process is done, quality control of the components is performed by the specialists.

Incoloy 800/800H/800HT are solid solution nickel chromium iron alloys with small additions of aluminium and titanium to improve corrosion and oxidation resistance.

The surface edges of the components must be even and the surface impurities must be removed. A beveling process is implemented for the edges of the parts. A grinding machine is employed for the beveling process. The type of grinding machines for beveling differs for stainless steel components and carbon steel components.

Pipelines for gathering sour gas have been built with solid (or clad) INCONEL? 625 alloy and used in seawater heat exchangers in refineries, power plants, and offshore topside services that often need this material.

Reworking of Alloy K-500 is best done while the material is in the annealed or hot worked and quenched condition. However, age hardened materials can be finished to close tolerances and finish. Therefore, the recommended practice is to machine slightly oversize, age harden, and then finish to size.

625 has almost complete freedom from chloride induced stress corrosion cracking.

INCONEL 718 alloy was primarily chosen by design engineers for its high strength in extreme temperature conditions at both ends of the spectrum. It can be used from low temperatures all the way up to 1300¡ãF/704¡ãC. It exhibits extremely high yield, tensile and creep rupture properties across the entire range. It also exhibits excellent tensile and impact strength.

Incoloy 825 is a superalloy with molybdenum and copper added to Incoloy 800. This makes Alloy 825 superior to Alloy 800 in terms of corrosion resistance.

Therefore, the fixation of the slip-on flanges is easier. However, the strength of the slip-on flanges is two-third of the weld necked flanges, under internal stresses due to flow. Another disadvantage of the slip-on flanges is that it¡¯s impossible to fix a flange to the elbow or fix a flange to the tee because the end surface of the slip-on fittings is not straight. The third flange group is the socket weld flanges. These flanges are utilized for small pipes that must yield high pressures. The strength of the socket weld flanges against internal stresses is equal to slip-on flanges.

For service requiring optimum creep and rupture properties, Incoloy 800H or 800 HT are used. The high contents of nickel and chromium in the alloys also give good corrosion resistance.

A low corrosion rate in rapidly flowing brackish or seawater combined with excellent resistance to stress-corrosion cracking in most freshwaters, and its resistance to a variety of corrosive conditions led to its wide use in marine applications and other non-oxidizing chloride solutions.

MONEL K500 is a age-hardenable Nickel-Copper alloy which combines the corrosion resistance of Alloy 400 with high strength corrosion fatigue and erosion resistance.

This nickel alloy is used from cryogenic temperatures up to long term service at 1200¡ã F.

Inconel 718 is a precipitation hardenable nickel-chromium alloy with high creep rupture strength at elevated temperatures around 700oC (1290oF). It is stronger than Inconel X-750 and has better mechanical properties at low temperatures than Nimonic 90 and Inconel X-750.
