AWS E317L/ER317L filler metal or austenitic, low carbon filler metal with higher molybdenum content than ASME SA182 SS 317L flanges, or nickel based filler metal with sufficient chromium and molybdenum content to exceed 317L corrosion resistance should be used for welding 317L steel.

S31803 is the Unified Numbering System (UNS) designation for the original duplex stainless steel. In addition, it allows to influence the nitrogen addition level rather than just being present as a background element.
