Stainless Steel 310 Round Bar is a robust austenitic stainless steel grade bar used in a variety of industries. Applications include chemical, brewing, petrochemical, food processing and many other industries. Stainless steel 310 round bars are available in different sizes according to EN, DIN, JIS, ASTM, BS, ASME and AISI codes.

Grade 304 is a general purpose grade and is ideal for welding. Grade 316 has excellent corrosion resistance. Higher operating temperatures for ASTM A276 Type 304 bars are possible due to the material’s high melting point of 1400 degrees Celsius. Bars come in different sizes, sizes and types such as ASTM A479 GR 304 Bright Bar and SS 304 Round Bar. A479 is a specification covering hot rolled bar, cold drawn bar, and pressure vessel bar. The pressure vessel code requires SS UNS S30400 hot rolled bar to be able to handle high pressures. The material can have different sizes.

Because Alloy 316 is extremely ductile, it can be easily formed into a variety of shapes. While stainless steel 316 round bars can be hot worked, many manufacturers prefer cold worked bars.

A479 is a specification for bars and rods produced in several grades of austenitic, ferritic, duplex or simply austenitic-ferritic and martensitic stainless steels. Since this designated stainless steel A479 round bar can be produced in any of the above grades, it can be heat treated differently.

Grade 304 – This is a standard “18/8” stainless steel with excellent forming and welding characteristics. 304L is a low carbon version of 304 and does not require post weld annealing. This makes it ideal for heavy components.

Since a276 grade 316 rods are resistant not only to acetic acid but also to phosphoric acid, they are part of equipment used in fertilizer manufacturing, textile processing, and the pharmaceutical industry. Another use for ASTM A479 Grade 316 bars is that they can be used as components in the food and beverage industry because the alloy is recognized as a hygienic and non-toxic alloy.

Type 347 stainless steel has slightly improved corrosion resistance in strongly oxidizing environments than Type 321 stainless steel. ASTM A479 can be described as a standard specification for stainless steel bars. They are available in custom shapes and sizes for use in boilers and pressure vessels. The material specification is available in four grades including austenitic, austenitic-ferritic, ferritic and martensitic grades. They have good mechanical properties such as high tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, etc. These can be used for hot and cold working bars.

The balanced austenitic structure of Grade 321 enables deep drawing without intermediate annealing, which makes this grade dominant in the manufacture of drawn stainless steel parts such as sinks, hollowware and pans.

The absolute roughness of hot rolled stainless steel round bars is higher than that of drawn bars. This is not a problem when rebar is only used for strength and corrosion resistance properties. But when the bar is used for aesthetic applications and outdoor fixtures, cold drawn stainless steel round bar is preferred because of its smooth surface and less absolute roughness. Bars can also vary in size. Typical range is 5mm to 450mm radius.

In fact, in most non-specialized environments or installations, it may be better to use lower grades of heat resistance such as 304, 304l, 316, and 347 stainless steel bar.

Characteristics of 304: As a heat-resistant grade, 304 stainless steel bar has good corrosion resistance to many chemical corrosive agents and industrial environments. And with good formability, 304 can be easily welded by all common methods. An ultra-low carbon variant called 304L avoids harmful carbide precipitation from welding. This variation provides the same corrosion resistance as 304, but with slightly lower mechanical properties.

The ASTM A479 specification covers stainless steel hot and cold worked bars, including round, square, and hexagonal, as well as hot rolled or extruded shapes such as angles, tees, and channels for boiler and pressure vessel construction. Four grades of stainless steel are available, including austenitic, austenitic-ferritic, ferritic and martensitic grades. Mechanical properties, such as tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, and hardness, shall be determined for specimens subjected to normalized, tempered, annealed, and quenched conditions. Austenitic stainless steels shall be heat treated and subjected to corrosion tests.

Applications and typical uses of stainless steel round bars are: Offshore (foils, helideck platforms, etc.), food industry, pulp and paper industry, aerospace (turbine blades, etc.), mechanical parts, nuclear waste barrels, valve stems, balls, liners sleeves, valve seats, etc.

Cold-drawn stainless steel bars are cold-finished, which means they are further processed after hot rolling. The hot-rolled and cold-drawn process helps improve bar dimensional tolerances, straightness, surface appearance, and overall physical properties. These SS bars are the most accurate compared to hot rolled bars. They have a smooth surface finish.

Grades 303 and 304 are interchangeable in many cases, but the composition of each grade is slightly different, making either of them the obvious choice for certain applications.
