Duplex 2205 is a nitrogen enhanced duplex stainless steel designed to solve common corrosion problems encounutered with 300 series stainless steels.

The structure of 2205 duplex stainless steel consists of a pool of austenite surrounded by a continuous ferrite phase. In the annealed condition, 2205 contains approximately 40-50% ferrite. 2205 is often referred to as the workhorse grade and is the most widely used grade in the duplex stainless steel family.

The properties of duplex pipes include durability and high strength as well as their resistance to stress related corrosion cracking.

ASTM A815 specification covers two general classes, WP and CR, of wrought ferritic, ferritic/austenitic, and martensitic stainless steel fittings of seamless and welded construction. In comparison to SS316, Duplex 2205 has been tested under reverse bending stresses at room temperature. The results show that the fatigue limit/yield strength is about twice as high for Duplex 2205.

The combination of chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen convey the good resistance of 2205 to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion. This resistance is extremely important for services such as marine environments, brackish water, bleaching operations, closed loop water systems and some food processing applications. The high chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen contents of 2205 provide corrosion resistance superior to common stainless steels, such as, 316L and 317L in most environments.

ASTM A182 F51 equates to UNS S31803. This was the original caption for a 22% Cr duplex stainless steel.

2507 Super Duplex Stainless Steel was designed for demanding applications which require exceptional strength and corrosion resistance, such as chemical process, petrochemical, and seawater equipment.

The yield strength of this alloy is about 570 MPa. In addition to strength, A240 S32750 Super Duplex Plate is an alloy that provides the best resistance to crevice and pitting corrosion.

Duplex 2205 round steel contains 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, and 5-6% nickel. In addition to excellent impact toughness and high strength, it also has high general, local and stress corrosion resistance.
