The standard duplex material consists of 22% chromium, 4.5% nickel, 3% molybdenum, manganese, silicon, nitrogen, phosphorus, carbon and sulfur. Duplex 2205 stainless steels are called “duplex” because they have a two-phase microstructure consisting of ferritic and austenitic stainless steel grains. When duplex stainless steel melts, it solidifies from the liquid phase to a fully ferritic structure. As the material cools to room temperature, about half of the ferrite grains transform into austenite grains (“islands”). The result is a microstructure of approximately 50% austenite and 50% ferrite.

Additionally, Duplex 2205 is the most widely used duplex grade on the market. Duplex 2205 alloy is a nitrogen-enhanced duplex stainless steel alloy. The effect of nitrogen is to significantly increase the corrosion resistance of the alloy; especially in the as-welded condition.

Super Duplex 2507 cannot be strengthened by heat treating. Annealing is performed at 1920¡ãF – 2060¡ãF (1049¡ãC – 1127¡ãC), followed by rapid cooling.

S32760 has very good resistance to localized corrosion and stress corrosion cracking and high mechanical strength.
