On average, duplex stainless steel is about twice as strong as either ferritic or austenitic stainless steels. High toughness and ductility. Duplex stainless steel can be more easily formed under pressure than ferritic grades and also have superior toughness.

This category of material includes grades 2205, F51, F53, and F60. Duplex stainless has increased in popularity over the years due to its excellent chemical and mechanical properties versus their basic stainless counterparts, given especially that the cost differences are minimal now as the availability has increased.

The flange is second most used joining method after selding. Flanges are used when joints need dismantling. It provides flexibility for maintenance. S31803 has been supplemented by S32205 (F60) which dual conforms to S31803 but has a higher minimum N, MO, NI and Cr which guarantees a better corrosion resistance.

Super Duplex 2507 is used in environments containing high levels of chlorides or dissolved oxygen, such as seawater cooling, salt evaporation, and desalination, geothermal wells.

2507 Duplex Plate also exhibit better ductility and toughness compared to ferritic stainless steels, but they do not provide these properties as successfully as austenitic stainless steels.

These grades are excellent for fixed service simple flange connections, but slightly less so when forming a complex metallic shape. Fortunately, the workability of duplex into complex and rounded structures is less of an issue in structural steel given the wide preference for simple mild steel in non corrosive applications.

The standard austenitic steels like 304 (1.4301) and ferritic steels like 430 are relatively easy to make and to fabricate. As their names imply, they consist mainly of one phase, austenite or ferrite. Although these types are fine for a wide range of applications, there are some important technical weaknesses in both types.

ASTM A240 Type 2507 Duplex Sheet is an alloy used in applications with high strength and corrosion resistance. The composition of the duplex 2507 sheet is approximately 25% chromium, 7% nickel and 4% molybdenum. This composition makes it resistant to crevice corrosion and chloride pitting.

Known for its high impact strength, UNS S32760 exhibits no ductile-brittle transition, but only a slight decrease in impact energy with decreasing temperature.

Super Duplex 2507 (F53 / 1.4410 / UNS S32750) has excellent corrosion resistance to a variety of media, and has excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in seawater and other chloride-containing environments, with a critical pitting temperature exceeding 50¡ãC.

UNS S32205 dual-phase steel round bar has excellent resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, high strength, can withstand brackish water or salt water impact, and high surface toughness.

Super Duplex Stainless steels, which combine high strength and excellent corrosion resistance in many environments, have found applications in chemical and process industries.
