The 2205 gasket is known as a duplex stainless steel gasket because it has a combination of ferrite and austenite and can be made into fasteners due to its high corrosion resistance. It has higher corrosion resistance than 316 stainless steel and is also highly resistant to stress corrosion and chloride cracking. 2205 has been determined to be cost effective because it is only 5% nickel and is significantly less expensive than Hastelloy C276 fasteners.

The temperature in heat exchange is usually increased because they work according to the principle of heat transfer.
