UNS N08367 also commonly referred to as alloy AL6XN is a low carbon, high purity, nitrogen-bearing “super-austenitic” nickel-molybdenum alloy with excellent resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion.

AL6XN is a superaustenitic stainless steel with outstanding resistance to chloride pitting, crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. AL6XN is a 6 moly alloy that was developed for and is used in highly aggressive environments. It has high nickel (24%), molybdenum (6.3%), nitrogen and chromium contents that give it excellent resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, chloride pitting, and exceptional general corrosion resistance. AL6XN is primarily used for its improved pitting and crevice corrosion resistance in chlorides. It is a formable and weldable stainless steel.

SAE 304 stainless steel is the most common stainless steel. The steel contains both chromium (between 18% and 20%) and nickel (between 8% and 10.5%)[1] metals as the main non-iron constituents. It is an austenitic stainless steel. It is less electrically and thermally conductive than carbon steel. It is magnetic, but less magnetic than steel. It has a higher corrosion resistance than regular steel and is widely used because of the ease in which it is formed into various shapes.[1]

Stainless steel 321 fasteners are strong with a minimum yield strength of 276MPa and a minimum tensile strength of 621MPa. The material has a melting point of up to 1399 degrees Celsius and can have very high operating temperatures. This bolt has the highest carbon content and is commonly found in pans and cooking tools. Essentially non-magnetic 321 stainless steel bolts are slightly magnetic when cold worked. Alloy 321 bolts are also used in sinks, tabletops, coffee makers, refrigerators, stoves, utensils and other cookware.

The flange is second most used joining method after selding. Flanges are used when joints need dismantling. It provides flexibility for maintenance. Flange connects the pipe with various equipment and valves. Breakup flanges are added in the pipeline system if regular maintenance in required during plant operation.
A flanged joint is composed of three separate and independent although interrdlated components; the flanges, the gaskets, and the bolting; which are assembled by yet another influence, the fitter. Special controls are required in the selection and application of all there elements to attain a joint, which has acceptable leak tightness.
A flange is a protruded ridge, lip or rim, either external or internal, that serves to increase strength (as the flange of an iron beam such as an I-beam or a T-beam); for easy attachment/transfer of contact force with another object (as the flange on the end of a pipe, steam cylinder, etc., or on the lens mount of a camera); or for stabilizing and guiding the movements of a machine or its parts (as the inside flange of a rail car or tram wheel, which keep the wheels from running off the rails). The term “flange” is also used for a kind of tool used to form flanges.

304l stainless steel cannot be hardened by heat treatment. Solution treatment or annealing can be rapidly cooled after heating to 1010-1120¡ãC.

Solution treatment is the most common heat treatment method after stainless steel casting process. The carbide phase is completely or substantially dissolved after the austenitic stainless steel is heated to about 1100 ¡ãC .

Stainless Steel Duplex 2205 is the most widely used duplex (ferritic/austenitic) stainless steel grade. It finds applications due to both excellent corrosion resistance and high strength. Duplex 2205 is a nitrogen enhanced stainless steel that was developed to combat common corrosion problems encountered with the 300 series stainless steels.

Grade 904L is less resistant to nitric acid than grades 304L and 310L, which are free of molybdenum. This steel grade needs to be solution treated following cold working, to achieve maximum stress corrosion cracking resistance under critical environments

The ASTM A554 TP304 tube has certain level of corrosion resistance with good strength. The cost effectiveness of the alloy 304 tubemake it adopted over a wide range of applications. The ASTM A270 TP304 tube has chromium and nickel components in the composition and it comes in different types such as the SS 304 seamless tubing and the electric resistance welded tubing.

The blind flanges are used to terminate a pipeline. Most of the times, a blind flange is used to permanently close a connection. Incoloy 925 flanges are made of a precipitation hardened nickel alloy. It offers comparable corrosion resistance to it¡¯s sister alloy Incoloy 825, but with the increased strength resulting from the age hardening process.

Inconel Square Pipes is similar to other stainless steel but with a titanium addition of at least five times the carbon content. This addition in Inconel Rectangular Pipes reduces or prevents carbide precipitation during welding and in the 800 Degree C 1500 Degree F service conditions.

SS 316L seamless pipe fittings possess greater durability under pressure and higher aesthetic appeal than its less expensive welded counterpart.

Alloy 347 stainless steel plate cannot be hardened by heat treatment, only by cold working.

The key elements in 304 are chromium and nickel, which give it excellent corrosion resistance. It has good corrosion resistance, is ductile and ductile, and has good weldability. The austenitic structure allows deep drawing without intermediate annealing.

304 also contains 8-10.5% nickel (Ni). It is added to make the austenite structure more stable at room temperature. Nickel also improves high temperature oxidation resistance, making the steel resistant to stress corrosion cracking. Where the steel is to be stretch formed, a lower percentage (8%) of nickel should be chosen. Higher percentages are better (9% or more) if the steel is to be deep drawn.

Alloy 310 can be used in moderately caburizing, moderately oxidizing, nitriding, cementing and thermal cycling applications when not used at the maximum service temperature.

In general, the Type 316 grade can be considered equally good in a given environment. A notable exception is intergranular corrosion in the heat-affected zone on welds and susceptible alloys in sufficiently corrosive environments. In such media, Type 316L is more suitable for welding conditions than Type 316 because the low carbon content increases resistance to intergranular corrosion.

Type 316 steel is an austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel that contains between two and 3% molybdenum.

The solution annealing treatment is required prior age hardening / precipitation hardening. The single phase microstructure created during solution annealing is required prior to age hardening, such that only the precipitates formed during age hardening will be present in the final product. The composition, size, and quantities of those precipitates formed during aging will determine the final product’s hardness, strength, and mechanical properties after aging. It is critical that the structure be properly solution treated prior to aging in order to meet all of these requirements.
