AL6XN is a 6 moly alloy that was developed for and is used in highly aggressive environments. It has high nickel (24%), molybdenum (6.3%), nitrogen and chromium contents that give it excellent resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, chloride pitting, and exceptional general corrosion resistance. AL6XN is primarily used for its improved pitting and crevice corrosion resistance in chlorides. It is a formable and weldable stainless steel.

316 Stainless Steel Characteristics
Type 316 stainless steel tubing is similar to 304, but with the addition of molybdenum, which improves the alloys corrosion resistance. The austenitic structure allows excellent toughness, even down to extremely low temperatures. These grades have excellent weldability, with or without the addition of filler metal. 316 / 316L stainless tube is available as round, square or rectangular shapes. 254 SMO is a high alloy austenitic stainless steel developed for use in seawater and other corrosive chlorine-containing media. The steel has the following properties: excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, high resistance to general corrosion and high resistance to stress corrosion cracking. 254 SMo / EN 1.4547 / UNS S31254 / 6Mo are generally used in pumps, valves, chokes, pipes/flanges and washers and have a high resistance to general corrosion.

Type 316 stainless steel is particularly effective in sour environments. This grade of steel is effective against corrosion caused by sulfuric, hydrochloric, acetic, formic and tartaric acids, as well as acidic sulfates and basic chlorides.

Type 316/316L is a chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel containing molybdenum. UNS S31254 is often referred to as a ¡°6% Moly¡± grade due to the molybdenum content.
