A flange is a ring of steel (forged, cut from plate, or rolled) designed to connect sections of pipe, or to join pipe to a pressure vessel, valve, pump or other integral flanged assembly. Flanges are joined to each other by bolts, and to the piping system by welding or threading (or loose when stub ends are used). Stainless steel flange simplified as SS flange, it refers to the flanges that made of stainless steel. Common material standards and Grades are ASTM A182 Grade F304/L and F316/L, with pressure ratings from Class 150, 300, 600 etc and to 2500. Alloy 309 (UNS S30900) is an austenitic stainless steel developed for high temperature corrosion resistant applications. The alloy resists oxidation up to 1900¡ãF (1038¡ãC) under non-cycling conditions. Frequent thermal cycling reduces oxidation resistance to approximately 1850¡ãF (1010¡ãC).

SAE 304 stainless steel is the most common stainless steel. The steel contains both chromium (between 18% and 20%) and nickel (between 8% and 10.5%)[1] metals as the main non-iron constituents. It is an austenitic stainless steel. It is less electrically and thermally conductive than carbon steel. It is magnetic, but less magnetic than steel. Type 316/316L is a chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel containing molybdenum. The addition of molybdenum improves corrosion resistance compared to 304/304L in halide environments and in reducing acids such as sulfuric and phosphoric acid. Type 316L can be dual certified as 316 when the composition meets the carbon lower limit of 316L and the slightly higher strength level of 316.

304l pipe has good oxidation resistance in intermittent duty up to 870¡ãC and continuous duty up to 925¡ãC. However, continuous use at 425-860¡ãC is not recommended. In this case, 304L is recommended because of its resistance to carbide precipitation. Where high strength is required at temperatures above 500¡ãC and up to 800¡ãC, Grade 304H is recommended. This material will remain resistant to water corrosion.

904L (N08904, 14539) super austenitic stainless steel contains 14.0-18.0% chromium, 24.0-26.0% nickel, 4.5% molybdenum. 904L super austenitic stainless steel is a low-carbon, high-nickel, molybdenum austenitic stainless acid-resistant steel, which is a proprietary material imported from French H¡¤S Company. It has good activation-passivation transformation ability, excellent corrosion resistance, good corrosion resistance in non-oxidizing acids such as sulfuric acid, acetic acid, formic acid, phosphoric acid, and good corrosion resistance in neutral chloride-containing media Excellent pitting corrosion resistance, as well as good crevice corrosion resistance and stress corrosion resistance. It is suitable for various concentrations of sulfuric acid below 70 ¡ãC, and has good corrosion resistance in acetic acid of any concentration and temperature under normal pressure, as well as in the mixed acid of formic acid and acetic acid.

Chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen increase resistance to pitting corrosion. Nickel imparts the austenitic structure.

Incoloy 925 flanges are made of a precipitation hardened nickel alloy. It offers comparable corrosion resistance to it¡¯s sister alloy Incoloy 825, but with the increased strength resulting from the age hardening process.

Grade 316 is a popular alloy of stainless steel with a melting range of 2,500 ¡ãF ¨C 2,550 ¡ãF (1,371 ¡ãC ¨C 1,399 ¡ãC). As an austenitic stainless steel alloy, it has qualities such as high strength, corrosion resistance, and high concentrations of chromium and nickel.
