The primary alloy base materials for Hastelloy C276 include metals such as nickel, molybdenum and chromium. In addition to these three metals, Hastelloy C276 fasteners also have tungsten added. It is well known that the addition of tungsten to superalloys can improve the corrosion resistance of alloys in various harsh environments. Hastelloy C-276 alloy has excellent resistance to a variety of chemical process environments, including strong oxidizing agents such as ferric and cupric chlorides, hot fouling media (organic and inorganic), chlorine, formic and acetic acid, acetic anhydride , seawater and brine solutions.

This alloy is having chemistry design for achieving thermal stability level that is superior to predecessors like B2 alloy. It is having good resistance to corrosion, pitting and stress corrosion cracking and to knife line as well as the heat affected zone attack.

Although Alloy C276 plate has a higher rate of work hardening compared to its austenitic counterpart, in-process annealing may be required if nickel alloy C276 plate is to be work hardened to a higher degree. Solution annealing may be required if the deformation of the nickel C276 strip exceeds 15%.
