254 SMO contains high amounts of these elements and is suitable for demanding environments such as chlorinated seawater. 1.4547 (also known as UNS S31254, 254 SMO?* and SS2378) is a high alloy austenitic stainless steel with exceptional corrosion resistance. The steel was developed for use in halide-containing environments such as seawater, hydrochloric acid and contaminated sulfuric acid. SMO 254 is an austenitic stainless steel product designed for maximum resistance to crevice and pitting corrosion. It contains high levels of molybdenum, chromium, and nitrogen, making it ideal for high chloride environments such as bleach plants and chloride processing streams.
