Nickel Alloy 400 and Monel 400, also known as UNS N04400, is a ductile nickel-copper-based alloy consisting primarily of two-thirds nickel and one-third copper. Nickel Alloy 400 is known for its resistance to a variety of corrosive conditions, including alkalis (or acids), salt water, hydrofluoric acid, and sulfuric acid. Since Monel 400 or Alloy 400 is a cold worked metal, this alloy has high hardness, stiffness and strength. By cold working ASTM B164 UNS N04400 bar stock, the alloy is subjected to higher levels of mechanical stress, which in turn causes changes in the alloy’s microstructure.

The molybdenum content increases corrosion resistance, improves resistance to pitting in chloride ion solutions, and increases strength at high temperatures.

The specification for ASTM A320 Grade L7m materials covers alloy steel and stainless steel bolting materials for low temperature applications. ASTM A320 L7 Studs can also be used in applications with ambient temperatures up to -150oF. ASTM A320 grade L7m bolts and ASTM A320 bolts have a minimum Charpy impact value of 15 foot-pounds at this temperature.

Alloy 601 Slip On Flange nconel 601 is a nickel-chromium alloy used for applications that require resistance to corrosion and heat. This nickel alloy stands out due to its resistance to high temperature oxidation, remaining highly resistant to oxidation through 2200¡ã F. Alloy 601 develops a tightly adherent oxide scale which resists spalling even under conditions of severe thermal cycling.

It is even resistant to strong liquids such as sulfuric acid, wet chlorine gas, chloride solutions, hydrochloric acid and most organic acids. However, it can burn in air and is the only element that will burn in the presence of nitrogen.
