UNS N08367 also commonly referred to as alloy AL6XN is a low carbon, high purity, nitrogen-bearing “super-austenitic” nickel-molybdenum alloy with excellent resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion.

It demonstrates good resistance to neutral and reducing environments. This alloy creates a tenacious oxide, protective film that does not spall off, but it retains superior oxidation resistance at soaring temperatures.

Nickel Alloy 400 and Monel 400, also known as UNS N04400, is a ductile nickel-copper-based alloy consisting primarily of two-thirds nickel and one-third copper. Nickel Alloy 400 is known for its resistance to a variety of corrosive conditions, including alkalis (or acids), salt water, hydrofluoric acid, and sulfuric acid. Since Monel 400 or Alloy 400 is a cold worked metal, this alloy has high hardness, stiffness and strength. By cold working ASTM B164 UNS N04400 bar stock, the alloy is subjected to higher levels of mechanical stress, which in turn causes changes in the alloy’s microstructure.

This provides greatly enhanced resistance to sulfuric acid. It also has a high chromium content, to maximize its resistance to oxidizing chemicals and process streams contaminated with ferric ions and dissolved oxygen.

For applications outside this temperature range, this alloy can also be considered, but there are some limitations, especially when applied to welded structures. Duplex stainless steel has twice the compressive strength compared to austenitic stainless steel, and designers can reduce its weight compared to 316L and 317L. Alloy 2205 is particularly suitable for use in the -50¡ãF/+600¡ãF temperature range, and can also be used at lower temperatures under severe restrictions (especially for welded structures).

Carbon steel forgings, manufactured in accordance with ASTM A105, are generally used for piping applications. ASTM A182 F11 class 1 Flange is the method of connecting two pipes, pumps and valves. This consists of chromium molybdenum based alloy steel grade.

SAE 304 stainless steel is the most common stainless steel. The steel contains both chromium (between 18% and 20%) and nickel (between 8% and 10.5%)[1] metals as the main non-iron constituents. It is an austenitic stainless steel. It is less electrically and thermally conductive than carbon steel. It is magnetic, but less magnetic than steel. It has a higher corrosion resistance than regular steel and is widely used because of the ease in which it is formed into various shapes.[1]

Although the material has good tensile strength at moderately high temperatures, the use of Incoloy 800 round bar at elevated temperatures results in a reduction in its tensile strength. However, like most austenitic stainless steel alloys, UNS N08811 bright bar has proven to be a useful asset, especially in environments with high levels of corrosive media.

Duplex alloys have some of the ferritic stress corrosion cracking resistance of common austenitic stainless alloys and many of the superior formability properties that are more cost effective than high nickel alloys.
