Stainless steel is an alloy of iron that is resistant to rusting. It contains at least 11% chromium and may contain elements such as carbon, other nonmetals and metals to obtain other desired properties. Stainless steel’s resistance to corrosion results from the chromium, which forms a passive film that can protect the material and self-heal in the presence of oxygen.

Grade F22 is a low alloy steel grade with a chromium content between 2% and 2.5%. The content of chromium and molybdenum is twice that of F11 grade. However, due to the maximum content of all alloying elements up to 5%, it is classified as a low alloy steel grade. As a low alloy steel grade, ASTM A182 F22 flanges outperform carbon steel, especially in applications involving high temperatures.

These stainless steel ASTM A453 Grade 660 bolts can be used up to 700¡ãC. This alloy achieves high tensile strength through a high degree of homogeneity. ASTM A286 bolts have an impressive minimum yield strength of 105,000 psi.
