UNS N08367 also commonly referred to as alloy AL6XN is a low carbon, high purity, nitrogen-bearing “super-austenitic” nickel-molybdenum alloy with excellent resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion.

AL6XN is a superaustenitic stainless steel with outstanding resistance to chloride pitting, crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. AL6XN is a 6 moly alloy that was developed for and is used in highly aggressive environments. It has high nickel (24%), molybdenum (6.3%), nitrogen and chromium contents that give it excellent resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, chloride pitting, and exceptional general corrosion resistance. AL6XN is primarily used for its improved pitting and crevice corrosion resistance in chlorides. It is a formable and weldable stainless steel.

Grade F22 is a low alloy steel grade with a chromium content between 2% and 2.5%. The content of chromium and molybdenum is twice that of F11 grade. As a low alloy steel grade, ASTM A182 F22 flanges outperform carbon steel, especially in applications involving high temperatures.

Grade 316, and grade 304, may suffer stress corrosion cracking in solutions containing chloride ions at temperatures over about 60¡ãC. Stress corrosion cracking should be considered for all corrosion services where the corrosive liquid may contain chloride.

The oxidation corrosion resistance and corrosion resistance of acid solutions and halide solutions required for the production of bleached paper such as 254SMO are comparable to the most elastic of the Nitinol base alloys.
