AL6XN is primarily used for its improved pitting and crevice corrosion resistance in chlorides. It is a formable and weldable stainless steel.

UNS N08367 also commonly referred to as alloy AL6XN is a low carbon, high purity, nitrogen-bearing “super-austenitic” nickel-molybdenum alloy with excellent resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion.

904L Stainless is the most common of the ¡°4% Molybdenum¡± alloys. It was designed to be an upgrade to 316L and Alloy 20 without incurring the expense of Alloy C276. 904L Stainless has been surpassed in popularity by the ¡°6% Molybdenum¡± alloys such as AL6XN?. Its availability in round bar is limited to metric sizes in 5mm increments. Consequently, inch-size diameter-headed bolts are relatively expensive to manufacture.

904L stainless steel washers are unstabilized austenitic stainless steel washers made from an alloy containing chromium, nickel, molybdenum and nitrogen with limited carbon content. Stainless steel 904L gaskets are used for low temperature service and highly corrosive environments. Meanwhile, the SS 904L gasket is an austenitic stainless steel for severely corrosive conditions. Stainless steel UNS NO8904 gaskets are useful for details in the marine environment, chemical and pharmaceutical industries.

254 SMO is a high alloy austenitic stainless steel developed for use in seawater and other corrosive chlorine-containing media. The steel has the following properties: excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, high resistance to general corrosion and high resistance to stress corrosion cracking. 254 SMo / EN 1.4547 / UNS S31254 / 6Mo are generally used in pumps, valves, chokes, pipes/flanges and washers and have a high resistance to general corrosion.

For example, the addition of molybdenum can further improve the atmospheric corrosion, especially the corrosion resistance to the atmosphere containing chloride.
