AL6XN is a superaustenitic stainless steel with outstanding resistance to chloride pitting, crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. AL6XN is a 6 moly alloy that was developed for and is used in highly aggressive environments. It has high nickel (24%), molybdenum (6.3%), nitrogen and chromium contents that give it excellent resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, chloride pitting, and exceptional general corrosion resistance. AL6XN is primarily used for its improved pitting and crevice corrosion resistance in chlorides. It is a formable and weldable stainless steel.

304L is preferred. And it lacks a minimum carbon content, which is not ideal for high temperature applications where optimum strength is required, so 304H is the first choice. Thus, 304 is generally limited to rods or sheets that are to be machined into components that do not require welding, or sheets formed in articles, such as kitchen sinks or cookware, which are also not welded.

316L stainless steel is an austenitic alloy often referred to as “marine grade stainless steel” because it is used in nearly 90% of marine applications – including filtration. In addition to metals such as iron and nickel, 316L contains 16-18% chromium and 2-3% molybdenum. These elements are important because they improve the alloy’s corrosion resistance; chromium interacts with oxygen in seawater to form a protective layer of chromium oxide, while molybdenum improves the metal’s resistance to pitting corrosion. Additionally, 316L has a lower carbon content (hence the use of “L” in its name), which gives it better protection against corrosion.

Applications for 310s stainless steel include the production of cryogenic components and use in furnaces, particularly in the construction of burners, heat exchangers, doors, fans and ducts. Since these grades of stainless steel can withstand very hot temperatures, it is also commonly used in the food processing industry as well as in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Stainless Steel 904L Flange contains high amounts of expensive ingredients, such as molybdenum and nickel. Today, most of the applications that employ grade 904L are replaced by low-cost duplex stainless steel 2205.

The welds obtained with 304/304l have good toughness and ductility. Annealing after forging is recommended to maintain maximum corrosion resistance. 304/304L can be forged between 2100¡ã-2350¡ã F.

Grade 316 stainless steel fasteners are designed for applications in extreme environmental conditions. Therefore, these industries require the 300-grade stainless steel series to provide enhanced protection and higher corrosion resistance. SS 316 Bolts and Nuts are constructed of Ni-Cr-Mo alloy austenitic stainless steel for good strength and excellent corrosion resistance.

Alloy 317L (UNS S31703) is a molybdenum-containing austenitic stainless steel with significantly improved chemical resistance compared to conventional chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steels such as alloy 304. Additionally, Alloy 317L has higher creep, stress-fracture and tensile strength at elevated temperatures than conventional stainless steels. It is a low carbon or “L” grade that provides resistance to sensitization during welding and other thermal processes.

321 stainless steel, also known as UNS S32100 and Grade 321, is primarily comprised of 17% to 19% chromium, 12% nickel, .25% to 1% silicon, 2% maximum manganese, traces of phosphorus and sulfur, 5 x (c + n) .70% titanium, with the balance being iron. With regards to corrosion resistance, 321 Stainless Steel is equivalent to Grade 304 in the annealed condition and is superior if the application involves service in the 797¡ã to 1652¡ã F range. 321 Stainless Steel combines high strength, resistance to scaling and phase stability with resistance to subsequent aqueous corrosion.
UNS S32100 Reducing Tee is preferred due to its ability to work in high pressure and temperature even at a higher temperature.

304/304L cannot be hardened by heat treatment. Cold working increases tensile strength and hardness. Annealing range is between 1850¡ã and 2050¡ãF. Cool quickly. Water should be used for heavier parts; air for lighter parts. The stress relief range is between 400¡ã and 750¡ãF.
