Austenitic stainless steel 304 L is favored by most buyers for its excellent weldability and is a low carbon version of the very popular alloy 304. Grade F22 is a low alloy steel grade with a chromium content between 2% and 2.5%. The content of chromium and molybdenum is twice that of F11 grade. However, due to the maximum content of all alloying elements up to 5%, it is classified as a low alloy steel grade. As a low alloy steel grade, ASTM A182 F22 flanges outperform carbon steel, especially in applications involving high temperatures.

Application requiring a combination of high strength and corrosion resistance may consider Incoloy 925 Weld Neck Flanges. All should be done to minimize work hardening of Incoloy 925 Socket Weld Flanges, but can be minimized by reducing the machining speeds and/or the depth of cut.
