The structure of 2205 duplex stainless steel consists of a pool of austenite surrounded by a continuous ferrite phase. In the annealed condition, 2205 contains approximately 40-50% ferrite. 2205 is often referred to as the workhorse grade and is the most widely used grade in the duplex stainless steel family.

The temperature in heat exchange is usually increased because they work according to the principle of heat transfer. While A789 tubing can hold its own at high temperatures, it is not recommended for use in temperatures above 600F. Duplex 2205 Tube may become brittle and rot at temperatures above 600F.

The standard austenitic steels like 304 (1.4301) and ferritic steels like 430 are relatively easy to make and to fabricate. As their names imply, they consist mainly of one phase, austenite or ferrite. Although these types are fine for a wide range of applications, there are some important technical weaknesses in both types.

Super Duplex is composed of 24% to 26% chromium, 6% to 8% nickel, 3% molybdenum and 1.2% manganese, with the remainder being iron. Trace amounts of carbon, phosphorus, sulfur, silicon, nitrogen, and copper were also found in Super Duplex.

Some of the advantages of using super duplex fasteners include its physical and excellent mechanical properties such as high yield strength, excellent tensile strength, high impact strength and excellent corrosion resistance.

These grades are excellent for fixed service simple flange connections, but slightly less so when forming a complex metallic shape. Fortunately, the workability of duplex into complex and rounded structures is less of an issue in structural steel given the wide preference for simple mild steel in non corrosive applications.

2101 is a low nickel, lean duplex stainless steel possessing both superior strength and chloride stress-corrosion cracking resistance when compared to 300 series stainless steel.

Alloy 2507 is highly resistant to carbide-related intergranular corrosion.

Through additions of chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen localized corrosion such as pitting and crevice attack are improved. Alloy 2507 has excellent localized pitting resistance.

The fatigue strength of S31803 nuts is also very good under all extreme conditions. Duplex stainless steel UNS S31803 nuts also have good fatigue strength and excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking, cracking, pitting, erosion, etc.

2507 Duplex Plate also exhibit better ductility and toughness compared to ferritic stainless steels, but they do not provide these properties as successfully as austenitic stainless steels.

Super Duplex has all the benefits of other duplex steels, specifically the strength benefits of their biphasic structural composition of equal parts austenitic and ferritic stainless steel. This microstructure makes all duplex steels around twice as strong as regular single structure ferritic or austenitic steels, but Super Duplex has a higher chromium and molybdenum content, giving it considerably increased resistance to corrosion than its counterparts.

Alloy 32750 is a super duplex stainless steel supplied in hot worked and solution annealed conditions.

F51 duplex stainless steel is especially suitable for use in the temperature range of -50¡ãF/+600¡ãF, and can also be used for lower temperatures under strictly limited conditions (especially for welded structures).

S31803 Duplex Steel is a 22% chromium duplex (austenitic/ferritic) steel with moderate to good strength and good general corrosion/stress corrosion/cracking resistance.

The combination of high strength, corrosion resistance and moderate weldability has many benefits but also bring disadvantages and limitations. High strength is a disadvantage when forming and machining. The higher strength also means that the metal is less ductile than austenitic grades. This means that these steels are not good when the goods being produce require any degree of complex forming. It is also worth bering in mind that evemn if the item can be formed in duplex steel greater forces are required. The metallurgy of duplex stainless steels is much more complex than for austenitic or ferritic steels whith the result that they are more complex and therefore expensive to produce. Howver the lower quantity of nickel in them as compared to austenitic grades does help to keep the cost down and reduce price volatility.
