AL6XN is a 6 moly alloy that was developed for and is used in highly aggressive environments. It has high nickel (24%), molybdenum (6.3%), nitrogen and chromium contents that give it excellent resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, chloride pitting, and exceptional general corrosion resistance. AL6XN is primarily used for its improved pitting and crevice corrosion resistance in chlorides. It is a formable and weldable stainless steel.

Nickel Alloy 400 and Monel 400, also known as UNS N04400, is a ductile nickel-copper-based alloy consisting primarily of two-thirds nickel and one-third copper. Nickel Alloy 400 is known for its resistance to a variety of corrosive conditions, including alkalis (or acids), salt water, hydrofluoric acid, and sulfuric acid. Since Monel 400 or Alloy 400 is a cold worked metal, this alloy has high hardness, stiffness and strength. By cold working ASTM B164 UNS N04400 bar stock, the alloy is subjected to higher levels of mechanical stress, which in turn causes changes in the alloy’s microstructure.

304 stainless steel has good oxidation resistance in intermittent use up to 870¡ãC and continuous use up to 925¡ãC. However, if corrosion resistance in water is required, continuous use at 425-860¡ãC is not recommended. In this case, 304L is recommended because of its resistance to carbide precipitation.

The strength of Monel400 Cu-Ni alloy is low in the annealed state, so it exhibits a higher degree of strength in the rolled state.

While 316 is not completely rust-proof, the alloy is more corrosion-resistant than other common stainless steels. Surgical steel is made from subtypes of 316 stainless steel.

They are also resistant to sulfuric and phosphoric acid.

Alloy 800 is an iron-nickel-chromium alloy with moderate strength and good resistance to oxidation and carburization at elevated temperatures.

The alloy 601 also has good resistance to aqueous corrosion.

This alloy is resistant to the formation of grain boundary precipitates in the weld heat-affected zone, thus making it suitable for most chemical process applications in an as welded condition.

Duplex 2205 stainless steel (ferritic and austenitic) is widely used in applications requiring good corrosion resistance and strength. Grade S31803 stainless steel was modified several times, resulting in UNS S32205, which was recognized in 1996. The ASTM A/ASME SA 335 specification covers seamless ferritic alloy steel pipes for high temperature service. The pipe is mainly used for bending, vanstoning and similar forming operations, as well as for fusion welding.

There are also 310S and 310H grades of flanges based on the carbon content. These flanges are used in high temperature service with high corrosion prone environments because of the high temperature tolerance and high oxidation corrosion resistance.
