UNS N08367 also commonly referred to as alloy AL6XN is a low carbon, high purity, nitrogen-bearing “super-austenitic” nickel-molybdenum alloy with excellent resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion.

AL6XN is a superaustenitic stainless steel with outstanding resistance to chloride pitting, crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. AL6XN is a 6 moly alloy that was developed for and is used in highly aggressive environments. It has high nickel (24%), molybdenum (6.3%), nitrogen and chromium contents that give it excellent resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, chloride pitting, and exceptional general corrosion resistance. AL6XN is primarily used for its improved pitting and crevice corrosion resistance in chlorides. It is a formable and weldable stainless steel.

With nickel 25% and molybdenum 4.5%, ASTM B625 UNS N08904 provides good resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, pitting and general corrosion, which are superior to 316L and 317L.

Our UNS N08904 Stainless Steel Blind Flanges are widely used to close the tail of pipe of a pressure vessel, as they are designed to retain pressure in a high-pressure area, and are resistant to reducing acids like sulphuric acids in petrochemical plants and oil refineries.

Alloy 254 SMO contains high levels of chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen and is often used in high chloride environments such as brackish water, sea water, pulp mill bleach plants and other chloride process streams.

Type 304 stainless steel is a T 300 Series Stainless Steel austenitic. It has a minimum of 18% chromium and 8% nickel, combined with a maximum of 0.08% carbon. It is defined as a Chromium-Nickel austenitic alloy.304 stainless steel is used for a variety of household and industrial applications such as food handling and processing equipment, screws,[3] machinery parts, utensils, and exhaust manifolds. 304 stainless steel is also used in the architectural field for exterior accents such as water and fire features. It is also a common coil material for vaporizers.

SS 316/316L flanges can be fabricated from ASTM A182 F316 or F316L forgings, ASTM A351 CF8M or CF3M castings, and ASTM A240 316 or 316L plates per ASME B16.5 and ASME B16.47.

For high temperature applications, the high carbon variant 316H stainless steel and the stabilized grade 316Ti stainless steel should be used.

With this high melting point, the flange can withstand temperatures up to 870 degrees Celsius. There are different types of flanges according to the face type. 304 stainless steel flanges are available with flat, raised and ring joints.

Although 316L contains less carbon, 316 and 316L stainless steels cost approximately the same.

For 304 stainless steel tube heat resistance, it has good oxidation resistance in intermittent use at 8700C and continuous use at 9250C. Continuous use of 304 in the 425-8600C range is not recommended if subsequent water corrosion resistance is important. Grade 304L is more resistant to carbide precipitation and can be heated to the above temperature range.

Common stainless steels include 304, 304L, 316, 316L, 347, 310S, 904, etc. They all contain chromium, nickel and other chemical components. For example, the addition of molybdenum can further improve the atmospheric corrosion, especially the corrosion resistance to the atmosphere containing chloride.

Alloy 317L (UNS S31703) is a molybdenum-containing austenitic stainless steel with significantly improved chemical resistance compared to conventional chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steels such as alloy 304. Additionally, Alloy 317L has higher creep, stress-fracture and tensile strength at elevated temperatures than conventional stainless steels. It is a low carbon or “L” grade that provides resistance to sensitization during welding and other thermal processes.

SAE 304 stainless steel is the most common stainless steel. The steel contains both chromium (between 18% and 20%) and nickel (between 8% and 10.5%)[1] metals as the main non-iron constituents. It is an austenitic stainless steel. It is less electrically and thermally conductive than carbon steel. It is magnetic, but less magnetic than steel. It has a higher corrosion resistance than regular steel and is widely used because of the ease in which it is formed into various shapes.[1]

A flange is a ring of steel (forged, cut from plate, or rolled) designed to connect sections of pipe, or to join pipe to a pressure vessel, valve, pump or other integral flanged assembly. Flanges are joined to each other by bolts, and to the piping system by welding or threading (or loose when stub ends are used). Stainless steel flange simplified as SS flange, it refers to the flanges that made of stainless steel. Common material standards and Grades are ASTM A182 Grade F304/L and F316/L, with pressure ratings from Class 150, 300, 600 etc and to 2500. It used in more industries than carbon steel as stainless steel has better resistant performances on corrosion environment and always provides with a good appearance.

The flanges are made in different face types. The face types range as flat face, raised face and ring type joint. The SA182 F55 RTJ Flange has a ring type joint. The flange is fixed in two halves.

316 steel pipe can extend the life of components or equipment exposed to harsh and corrosive conditions, especially when exposure to salt is involved. However, for most applications, class 304 will work just fine.

The addition of molybdenum and chromium to its alloys ensures better mechanical properties and a certain degree of corrosion resistance. ASTM A182 F22 Class 3 flanges have good atmospheric corrosion resistance and some resistance to scaling when they are exposed to high temperatures. The addition of molybdenum to alloys is generally associated with high stiffness and hardness. Therefore, when included in the chemical composition of Astm A182 F22 Class 1 WNRF Flanges, its toughness gives the alloy an advantage over conventional carbon steel grades.

304/304l is non-magnetic in the annealed condition and cannot be hardened by heat treatment. Hardness and tensile strength_ can be increased by cold working, which may lead to slight magnetic properties. Dual certified 304/304L complies with 304 and 304L stainless steel specifications and is interchangeable and safe for use in any grade of application.
