AL6XN is a superaustenitic stainless steel with outstanding resistance to chloride pitting, crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. AL6XN is a 6 moly alloy that was developed for and is used in highly aggressive environments. It has high nickel (24%), molybdenum (6.3%), nitrogen and chromium contents that give it excellent resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, chloride pitting, and exceptional general corrosion resistance. Stainless steel bars are manufactured through a forging process. Here, the steel passes through several rolls and raw materials such as billets and blooms are heated to around 1200 degrees Celsius. It exceeds the recrystallization temperature of steel.

In addition to nickel, the alloy also contains a large amount of copper. Not only does copper make the UNS S08904 screw resistant to seawater and salt water, it also improves the alloy’s sulphur resistance. The addition of copper content to stainless steel 904L hex bolts provides higher corrosion resistance than conservative chromium-nickel alloys, especially phosphoric, acetic and sulfuric acids.

Alloy 310 can be used for mild oxidation, nitridation, cementation and thermal cycling applications, but the maximum service temperature must be reduced. Alloy 310 can also be used in low temperature applications with low permeability and toughness down to -450oF (-268oC). When heated between 1202 ¨C 1742oF (650 ¨C 950oC), the alloy exhibits sigma phase precipitation. Solution annealing at 2012 ¨C 2102oF (1100 ¨C 1150oC) will restore some degree of toughness.

S32750 (2507) is a duplex stainless steel that combines many of the excellent properties of ferritic and austenitic steels.
